My first job was a caddy at a CC. $ 5.00 a bag and tried to always carry 2. Tipping wasn't a thing then and that $ 5.00 for usually around 5 hours work went a long ways back in early 60's.

We made big bucks, didn't we plum. I made mine working in a newspaper mailroom. Inserting papers, mailing papers, tying up bundles of paper routes, etc. Took my first date to a movie with that money. I was a big spender then. Popcorn and a soda included. No kiss goodnight though.

I was born in 1960. I remember hearing about a lot of them. I also remember just after I got my license to drive that gas went up to 50 cents a gallon. I was not to happy. I also remember when cigarettes went up to a $1.25 a pack out of the cigarette machine. I said I was going to quit. Boy did I quit and several other times. The latest was 7 months ago. Quit for a month and a half. I even spent Christmas week in the hospital because I had a hard time breathing. But when i got home it was very difficult to stay clean. Everybody else still smokes in the house.
So I failed big time. Maybe one of these days.

Born in 1953. At age 13 messed up my hip. 1971, in the hospital for 2 months. Semi private room cost $35.00 a day. Amazing what the insurance companies have done since then.

I remember my Dad telling me about "flation". back then gas was 19c, camels 21c, bread a nickel. I bought my brand new 72 Chevy pick-up tricked out for $2,500. same truck went for 6.500 in 74. Quit smoking Camel when it hit 55c pack. they cost $11.00 today. first job was picking strawberries for 10c box. today I make six figures and still don't have as much money in the credit union as back then.

If you are as old as I am...or older, you either remember these comments from 1955-ish, or just forgot:

"I'll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it's going to be impossible to buy a week's groceries for $20.00."

"Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won't be long before $2,000 will only buy a used one."

"If cigarettes keep going up in price, I'm going to quit. Twenty five cents a pack is ridiculous."

"Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging ten cents just to mail a letter?"

"If they raise the minimum wage to $1 an hour, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store."

"When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would some day cost 29 cents a gallon? Guess we'd be better off leaving the car in the garage."

"I'm afraid to send my kids to the movies any more. Ever since they let Clark Gable get by with saying 'damn' in 'Gone With The Wind', it seems every new movie has either hell or damn."

"I read the other day where some scientist thinks it's possible to put a man on the moon by the end of the century. They even have some fellows they call astronauts preparing for it down in Texas."

"Did you see where some baseball player just signed a contract for $75,000 a year just to play ball? It wouldn't surprise me if someday they'll be making more than the President."

"I never thought I'd see the day all our kitchen appliances would be electric. They are even making electric typewriters now."

"It's too bad things are so tough nowadays. I see where a few married women are having to work to make ends meet. It won't be long before young couples are going to have to hire someone to watch their kids so they can both work."

"I'm afraid the Volkswagon car is going to open the door to a whole lot of foreign business."

"The drive-in restaurant is convenient in nice weather, but I seriously doubt they will ever catch on."

"There is no sense going on short trips anymore for a weekend, it costs nearly $15.00 a night to stay in a hotel."

"No one can afford to be sick anymore, at $35.00 a day in the hospital, it's too rich for my blood."

"If they think I will pay 50 cents for a haircut...forget it!"

Ring any bells?
If you are as old as I am...or older, you either r... (show quote)

I can recall in Oak Park, Mich., gas being 21 cents a gallon and whatever year it was when automatic transmissions first came out people saying they were "just a fad". Look at em now!!!!!If you want a manual shifter you have to order it.

My first jobs...outside of mowing lawns and collecting soda bottles...were as a busboy and also door-to-door selling of donuts from the neighborhood bakeshop. I was paid 25 cents an hour* as a busboy, while raking in a cool nickel per bag of a baker's dozen glazed donuts. With both jobs, I garnered a few, but not many tips. I started working them at 8 years-of-age.

*I did clean-up on free meals after my shifts of busing tables. And, the bake shop usually let me take home a bag of donuts after finishing my day. I probably sold an average of about 20 bags per day At the age of 8, I was rollin' in cash.
