Do they make a fish finder app that you can use on your iPhone ? I don’t want to spend $2-300 bucks on a fish finder when I can download a free app on my phone .

Does your iPhone have a transducer?

Can you hold your phone under the water? OR does it have it's own transducer?

Aww Saw I just asked him. I understand that the newest iPhones don't need a transducer. You just hold the phone over the side of the boat.

Never heard of a phone that could do that. If the unit does not touch the water, it will not return a signal.

New device/app could turn your smartphone into a fishfinder
https://newatlas.com/deeper-fishfinder/22997

The Deeper fishfinder would work with the user's smartphone or tablet, providing them with information on the location of fish in the local waters.

The above link is for a "possible" product, according to the copy.....and still costs $199. And yes, you get a little floater to actually get readings. Sounds just like I-Bobber, to me. And I-Bobber is like $100, I think.
Get a "Fishin'Buddy". I bought one, new in PKG, off Craigslist for $60. Probably good price on eBay or Amazon, though maybe more $$. Works for what I want,...depth. I have used for finding fish, but I ALWAYS turn off the annoying alarm.

Why would you pay minimum $ 400 up to $ 1000 for an iPhone for a ( maybe in the future ) for a fish finder? You're not a fisherrman that I'll take fishing.

Not sure why you quoted ME, Finfisherman ?
I'm the one with the $60 fish finder, and I leave my Pixel 2 phone in the truck.... I'm way too cheap of a guy, to take chances with it.

I agree with the majority. I have a 1962 Wooden 15.5 ft boat. it just had a depth finder from Sears. It would also see things in between the bottom and the boat. I think the apps for phones are a gimmick. They might be free or cheap but no way they are as accurate as having something on back of boat or floating that uses Bluetooth to tell phone what is in the water ( vegetation...fish..bottom etc). Do whatever but things that help you see all these will not be free. I have a boat I am fixing up and will probably spend 3-500 bucks on a nice fishfinder. I have spent a lot of time and money on fishing and hunting. If you have something that gives you much needed information ( where the fish are) its worth some money. I am a tightwad too but now I can spend a bit on one of my favorite things to do (fishing). I really do NOT believe a phone (stupid...smart...dumber than beep) will work to locate fish under a boat without something that is in the water. They can tell you about moon...sun...weather ...barometric pressure and other information to estimate the odds of hooking a fish in your current location but I do not believe they can have a radar or sonar or any other form of SEEING what is currently in the water. That would be like getting an app for your phone to find deer and Elk instead of using a Scope on a gun. The app says aim due west right now....the app knows there is an Elk at 160 yards due west. Bogus. The people selling or putting ads on the site or your phone don't have anything to lose by getting people to believe their BS sales pitches.

The depth finder from the 60s on my wooden boat has a transducer unlike a stupid phone. I have apps on my phone too but I will never believe they can see fish by themselves (with nothing floating or attached to boat).

There is finders for much less if you really want them. I want GPS for FOG and Heavy Rain or if gets dark etc. phones have it but redundancy is a good thing when boating. Safety should be highest priority and GPS can easily save you and others lives. It is modern but think of all the people that have died or nearly died from not having things like GPS
