I only use WD-40 on my catfish bait. If I thought I was polluting the water, I wouldn't use it. I have been told the oil from 2 stroke motors that is lighter than water will get washed up on the bank and does not in fact pollute the water. That is what the WD-40 does. It won't mix with water. But I use all the other scents on the market. I haven't ever read the ingredients of them. I bet some of them have some sort of petroleum products in them.
I occasionally use Gulp spray on soft plastics. It helps trigger bites.
There is another post: Does fish scents really work, on here today. It is a video that talks about this. He says the commercial scents are either water or oil based. And if it's oil it will float to the top. That Liquid Mayham he talks about, sounds like some good stuff.

On that note I found in my old old tackle box from the 50s some Uncle Josh pork rind baits in jars still like it was when it was Archived?? gonna try it come bass open season. Will also use some smallish perch for bait that I catch. Seeings how a huge bass took a chomp outta a good size keeper perch that was on my line
Theory big bait big fish and there are some big fish in this lake
I use the Yum shad scent and it does make a difference. I also use the fish oil that someone here mentioned. It actually smells the same, but the capsules of fish oil have a more concentrated smell to them.

Always! As I call it, fish repellent.
I use the shrimp and also the garlic and it works well. I catch way more out of my pond when I use them on lures or bait.

anybody here use a cover up or attractive scent to their lure or what ever
Several responses to this question I've read, is that its basically to cover your scent, which dirt and water are a lot cheaper. But I still buy the stuff, hoping it will help :-)
