From Wikipedia: "The Spot or Norfolk spot is a small short-lived saltwater fish in the family Sciaenidae. The species inhabits estuary and coastal waters from Massachusetts to Texas, and derives its name from the prominent dark spot behind each gill. It is the only species in the genus Leiostomus."
Very common in Chesapeake Bay and excellent bait.

I was thinking that "spots" were redfish. Well,,,,,,,,, I guess they are, you guys know how that goes.

Most people here in NC and Virginia love spots as for the water temp not real sure we had a cold from and expecting one this weekend but the run early May we catch them on blood worms and shrimp The piers here open tomorrow morning at 8am

Red fish are Spottails

We sometimes see them up here, not every year though. Good live bait for Stripers during the fall migration.

Seems tricky to keep them alive between now until fall. Hopefully there are good runs when you need them for Stripers.

True the guys fish off the back of the piers use them to catch Kings

Yes, they were often abundant during the fall run and sometimes in the spring.
