I would empty the tank and put carb cleaner in the new gas as suggested. Dont take the old gas to a station to dispose, they will charge you an arm and leg to dispose. Use with new gas in mower or tractor.

I would dump gas out filter , it might b bad and make it hard to start. good luck

I put stabil in all of my fuel tanks, I also have a fuel tank that I keep 2-300 gallons in and I routinely add stable and seafoam and have not had an issue. If you run your out of gas after each trip your carb does not get gummed up. If the fuel does not smell it is probable ok.

So a couple of years ago my son and I bought a 15 foot aluminum boat with a 20 horse outboard. Both are pretty old. We took it out a few times and then he got a girlfriend and didn’t have time to go fishing with Dad. Then I had both of my knees replaced and I never ended up taking it out last year.
There’s been gas in the tank for nearly two years. I’m pretty sure I put Stabil in the tank when I put the gas in. What are the chances that gas is okay?
If it’s bad, and it probably is, what do I need to do? Of course with this virus thing going on the county’s hazardous waste drop off is closed. I could sure use some advise on how to make sure I get this mess resolved.

the best thing to do is just get rid of the old gas
clean your plugs and carburetor, buy new gas
and you should be in business
I'm not sure where to tell you to dispose of the old gas
so ask at your service center mayhaps they can help you

Thanks to all for the input. I really appreciate all of it. I’m feeling confident about getting rid of the old gas, and getting it up and running with fresh treated gas.

I don’t think there’s anywhere here that you can find leaded gas. It’s hard to find ethanol free gas even.

You should be able to find recreational gas. Pure gas. No ethanol. I use it in my chain saws.

Yep I have been only using ethanol free gas in my lawnmower since my last one only made it a couple years before it crapped out. I’ll be doing the same for the boat going forward.

If the motor is a 2 stroke, and you drained the carb before you put it up, then just drain the gas tank , add fresh 2 stroke mix and fire it up . Once you have it running you can burn the old gas by just adding a little bit at a time to the new gasoline. If it is a 4 stroke the same thing applies except you of course don't need the oil. If you did not drain the carb, then take the float bowl off and clean out the gum and varnish with carb cleaner paying attention to the main jet pick up, before you attempt to start the motor.

Almost all the newer Maverik stations have Ethanol free here in Utah. I worked for them before I retired. Also worked for a pump repair outfit that serviced service stations and you really would not believe what ethanol fuel does to any not stainless steel surface! Not good! I used to go to the airport for all my gas because they had to run non-ethanol in planes. I mostly drive diesel cars/trucks so it didn’t bother me much to buy gas for the toys. Wife had to have a new Hybrid SUV so I ‘engrained’
It to her that I will be checking all her gas purchases to make sure she only gets ethanol free. BIG MEANY I AM!

Dump the gas, use for building fire or drop of at recycling outlet but don't use it in the boat motor.
It isn't worth the hassle to use questionable old fuel to save $5 or $10.
Spend the money to buy fresh fuel and you won't have to mortgage the house to get the motor repaired later. It also assures you can go fishing now and not wait 6 weeks while the work on the motor.
