People who crap on Ugly Stiks, especially for beginners, are the type of dudes using top of the line gear on 40k bassboats.
IMO, you don't appreciate good gear unless you start with beginner equipment.

You got a used Bassboat huh? Nice
Lol
Shakespeare has a new Ugly Stick Carbon, it’s a new $80 model, looks nice
All of my gear dates back to the '70's and beyond, Medalist, Fenwick, Mitchell. Hell I even have some bamboo, a fly rod and spinning rod, have no idea when hey were made.
I have 5 and never a problem. These rods are tough too.

I've found that other anglers when I mention that I have an ugly stik crap on me for it. It's serviced me well through the years and I have put it through hell and back, and I have yet to have a complaint.

I think an Ugly Stick is a great rod for the money not all of us can afford $300 for a rod, come to think of it if I could afford the $300 model I would just stick with my 3 Ugly Sticks. I catch a lot of fish with them.
Lose a rod off the back of your boat which one do you cry about most the super expensive St. Croix or an Ugly Stick I'll take the Ugly Stick hands down. I can afford to replace it if I should close my trunk lid on it.
Personally I done own a ugly stick and probably never will, but that is my personal preference. If you like them and you catch fish, great. I usually build my own.
Yes, I have several Ugly Sticks they have served me well over the years I have 2 of them a little shorter then when I bought them. The car decided I needed shorter poles (caught in the door). Ha ha
We’ll you pour gas down it’s throat and step on its pedals. Payback.
Why do you care what they think about your equipment? If it works for you and you catch fish ......
The ugly stik had an earlier rival best I remember called the rhino rod and the end of that rod glowed. Remember it?
yup, when they start on my Ugly Stiks, I just tell them my Uglies are the cadillacs of my fishing poles, the rest are Sturdy Stiks .:)

Can backlash as much on the high dollar rod as the Ugly stick.

I had a charter boat and finally after customers broke several expensive rods etc. I purchased ugly sticks and life was good. I won’t say they are the best but unbreakable not expensive and did perfect for Salmon etc on a charter boat. I have no problem with them
