Should community ponds be made catch and release only?

There are probably a lot of municipalities that enforce this, but with the recent quarantine, jerks keeping fish has gotten out of control. Never mind the basic lack of courtesy to take fish from a half acre pond, but taking undersize or over limit fish too. The whole "I lost my job, I need to provide for my family" shtick is not an excuse. Go on SNAP like everyone else or fish for food at reservoir or river that can actually handle that kind of harvest on a regular basis.

If they're taking fish outside the legal limit, call fish and game and report a poaching incident. If they're within the limit, that's their right, leave them alone. If it's not right, fish and game will study it and set new limits

I agree with that sentiment, but I don't think fish and game (or TPWD, since I'm from TX) are paying close enough attention to this. I'm planning on meeting with my local rep to discuss it.

Dont fish community ponds, no matter the laws, it's the most easily targetted and they're always sub par fishing

This might not make much sense to you but my experience with small bass ponds actually do better the more you fish them. Maybe not fish them out but consistent fishing has proven to me that fewer baby fish are eaten and the population grows from consistent fishing. That’s just my experience. I would never buy a fish from a grocery store but I wouldn’t, intentionally, catch and release fish either. That’s more detrimental to the population than catching for consumption. Just my own experience and only where I’ve, personally, fished. Might be a completely different scenario anywhere else🤷🏼♂️

Years ago, when I designed a couple of private ponds for the sites of custom homes, the Louisiana Game and Fisheries folks recommended that small stocked ponds *needed* to be actively fished 1 man hour per acre per day to keep the fish population healthy - kept the pond from devolving into more but stunted fish.
