Whrdrr, where are you and lake Marion located? This site goes nation wide and our friend in China ( CD ) checks in daily.
If you are looking for large cats, fish the lower end near the dam. If you are like me and like some for the fry pan, find a sandy flat and drift a nightcrawler on the bottom. Never caught any huge ones that way but plenty of 5 to 6 pounders. I don't know if Rock's Pond Campground is still there but there is an island near the main river channel. I used to camp out on the island and use large minnows (live ones) and cast to the edge of the channel with an 11 foot surf rod with a large Penn spinning reel. Caught several in the 60 to 70 pound range. This is assuming you are in South Carolina. Lake Moultrie is good for cats as well, just not as large.
Thanks rocks pond is still there

South Carolina just out side of Columbia. I lived in a quaint farmhouse right on the lake 50 years ago while working for a small sailboat manufacture in Columbia. Being from Va. I questioned the weather in the area and was told it was easy living. During my year and a half we had 4" ice storms in the winter, a tornado that took out a cedar tree 10' from the house and cut a very neat swath through the 80' pines as neat as a powerline right of way and a minor earth quake. The Lake is beautiful. Mike

I havent fished Marion in ages. Are you familiar with Moultry any? If so I can help. Caught these last Monday. PM me if you want any info on lower lake. Gordon
Fish the dam area and the river channels with live Blue Gill, live Shad and cut bait. There are many stumps under water everywhere so follow channel markers . Dangerous lake of 115,000 acres.

Judge, Sounds like you know this lake pretty good. I have ripped a hole in the bottom or my boat before in Lake Marion.
Just a few times on that lake and you will stump hunt, not to mention quite a few alligators.

Where do you fish out of. Not asking your location. Just want to know if we are neighbors.
I fished out of the area of Goat Island but I doubt I will go back. I had nothing but bad luck when fishing there. If I go back it will be with a guide. I had an uncle that lived at Jacks Creek fish camp but he is deceased and that place is closed down.
