St Croix make some real nice rods. With Replacement guarantees. 👍👍

GrampsLS: If you're using spinning reels close the bail manually. This will help reduce the wind knots from happening.

I’m looking at getting a quality rod for panfish, crappie, trout, and whatever else will eat a micro lure. I’m stuck on whether I should go for a light, or ultra light rod. I mostly fish from the bank and want to use mostly micro cranks/jerks, jigs w soft plastics, and the occasional bobber with live bait. What are the pros and cons to light and UL, rod series really liking the St Croix if anyone has personal experience with either

I would go with light action, just in case you hook into something you’re not prepared for. Take a look at the muskie in my avatar. I landed her with a POS light action rod and reel I grabbed out of my buddy’s boathouse while I was waiting to help him pull his pier out after we got back from duck hunting. Not sure I could have done it with an UL. You will still enjoy catching panfish and trout.

I’ll pile on to another thread by adding that I probably couldn’t have done it unless I used an Ugly Stik 😜
Sorry, couldn’t resist.

Look at Shimano Clarus in ultra-light5.5 foot. I have caught large bass, trout, catfish, stripers, gills, & large crapps with it. I have a shimano IX1000R with 6# mono on it. It is a very feeling rod (sensitive) Just a good reasonable combo setup.IMO

Ive done the same thing. I have a fenwick 4'8 ultralight and 4 lb test mono. Pflueger president reel. And a 10 lb pike. Glad for a smooth drag. Thats the second pike that size ive caught with it as well as a channel catfish 5 lbs in weeds and a 4lb smallmouth. All from a boat. Not bank fishing.

I have the Pflueger President matched up with two of my St Croix’s
That’s an amazing reel for the money!

Buy one of each . Then you can debate yourself everytime you go fishing. Why do you need someone else to make a decision , grow a set and Do It!

I only have a pic of the smallmouth i caught. Zoom in you can see the 1/32 oz chartreuse crappie jig.

Well done DBass! Kind of surprising how they will hit those small baits when they r in the mood. But I have caught a lot of smallmouth fishing for crappies. Up to 20” smallmouth on little crappie jigs and 4# yest. Takes a while to get them in!
