If reading this right the last step puts you back to square one. Shouldn't you just reel it from the one you've used on to the one you want it to be on?

I've got a Daiwa GC100 that I want to put new line on. It will take 100 yards of 8 * mono. I've got a 150 yard spool of power pro braid that's the equivalent diameter of 6* mono. So, how do I tell when I've got about 100 yards of line on it? I don't want to overload it.

Double check spool size, some may take 100 yards of #8, then 150 yards of #6 mono. My thoughts as a fishing guide are you fish freshwater or salt? For freshwater 75 yards of Power Pro and 20 yards #8 mono as backing. For saltwater, if your thinking of longer running fish, You only need 5 yards of mono to hold the Power Pro from spinning on the spool. I worked for Cabela's and Gander Mountain in past years, that's now we would fill spools.

hey Spirit experience from working at Bass Pro, including spooling reels. It's more important to notice how full the spool is rather than how many actual yards of line are on it. You would not get 100 yards of 10# on there but you could still fish it if spooled properly. Run your spool up to about -1/8" from the edge, braid should cast properly, not get snarled and seat itself after getting a few fish (or snags). if you accidently over spool it the first snarl should get rid of the excess line. good luck killin that skunk.

OK. I bought this reel several years ago and I've never liked it so I almost never fish with it. But. Covid has me going nuts looking for things to do. I have a couple of never opened 150 yard spools of power pro laying around. Boredom + line + old reel = there you have it. Now I know that as soon as I get some new line on it I'm gonna wanna take it out and play with it, if for no other reason than to prove to myself why it is that I don't like it. And that's gonna be frustrating because I can't go fish. So what's the motivation? Boredom.

Anybody ever use suffix braid?

yep I use the 832 all the time very slick, casts a mile and you can feel a snail bump your line.

100yds= 3x12x100 inches=3600 inches
measure diameter of your spool. Circumference of spool =3.14x diameter
what is your gear ratio (number of turns of spool for each turn of the crank)

On each crank you get gear ratio x circumference of spool in inches would onto the spool
Divide 3600 inches by inches wound on the spool per crank and you get the number opf cranks you need to wind to load 100 yards.

You get the prize jeff! That's exactly what I was looking for, I just didn't want to do the brain work, I'm lazy. But I will chew on it a little bit, then let you know. Have you tried this? Are you sure? Or is this theory based on rock solid mathematics?

It is very simple proven math. I actually calculated it for my reel today. I then walked off 30 yds and was within 3 turns of accuracy. This is because reel circumference increases as u wind it on. Will work no problem

If the reel had a 100 yards on it why not mark the reel for max. I think you could put more line on it if you a smaller line as long as you don’t load past that mark. Well that’s my thinking

Well I have done it with math weigh the spool then divide by the amount on the spool it should give you the weight of 100 yds by calculating what 1 yard weighs.or weight 1 yard the then add it up until it reaches 100 yds its takes time but is something I have done not a fast or favorite but it’s interesting to know.at least to me
