Me too. I love "Ugly Sticks". They are sensitive and for well even in finesse situations.

I have a couple of ugly sticks and am not crazy about them. Have replaced with star rods and tsunami. I like the other rods better because of sensitivity and weight!

I would probably get a 7’ medium or medium heavy. Line weight would be 10-12 mono equivalent and lure weights less than 3/4 oz.

The bottom line is going to be budget. Ugly Stiks will keep you under $60, but you will notice a weight difference between those and more expensive rods and those made with different materials. However, they are darn near indestructible. Match whatever you choose with a reel that provides a well balanced setup, a nice braided line with a fluoro or mono leader and get after them. Good luck with whatever you choose.

I broke a Falcon on a hook set in a log jam, called them up sent a pic and they sent me a new one.
Great people there, that take great pride in their product.

For many years I used a 7' medium action Ambassador popping rod for inshore fishing for redfish, trout, and flounder. It had a 5000 series ABU reel loaded with 14 lb Triline XL. This was also my favorite bass rod for casting bigger crankbaits, spinnerbaits and such. I never did like those older rods with the one hand grips for very much and now they almost don't exist. The same sort of set up will work just as well today as it did then.
