Fishing lines? What's best for a Pflueger President XT Spinning Reel?
Hi guys..
I know absolutely nothing about fishing, but I want to learn.
Based on some helpful advice I got in here, I purchased an Ugly Stik fishing rod and a Pflueger President XT Spinning Reel.
I guess the next step is to buy the line and the lures.
Is there a particular line that works best with that reel?
What would you recommend?
Lure recommendations would be great as well.
Thanks.

Braid is always a good choice. Jbraid 8x, powerpro, kastking, etc. Look at ytube to find how to put it on the spool. It'll be backed with a little mono so it doesn't slip. Tip it with the same mono as a leader and you'll be as good as it can get.

Power pro. I’d go with 30lb test so you can rip it out of pads/weeds without snapping your mainline. Mono works good for the backing to stop slipping but I use electrical tape just easier/faster for me. As far as leader material and baits do you have a specific species that you’d like to target?

I have to say 8# mono for starters... braid has a learning curve to it... can be a pain in the ass... learn to fish with mono then go from there....

This would be my advice too. Berkeley Trilene XT is a cheap, reliable mono line.
Though mono has it's quirks too, memory, line twist, and overfilled spools can be a big issues when using mono...

Power Pro braid. My Presidents are spooled with 10 pound Power Pro. I only use mono on my ice fishing rods.

Forget all of the problems with mono and try fluorocarbon
I have been using it exclusively for a few years now and I’ll never go back to monofilament
I use 20 lb Power Pro and electric tape also. Love the President.
Power pro and a mono or flouro short topshot, and you can’t go wrong....you’d be ready for just about any situation out there
If you look carefully at the spool on the President it has fiber bands incorporated into the spool itself. That is one reason I am partial to this reel. I have never needed to use backing on my braided line, unlike my other spinning reels.
How long would you expect one to learn to fish with mono before switching to braid? Why not just learn to fish with braid from the jump?
Mono. Berkeley trilene XL. This line has very little memory. A must for a spinning reel.

Why would you WANT to use braid?
To each his own. (no offense) There`s many professional fishermen that use BRAIDED LINE. One of the main pros of braid is there is no stretch. Look up Roland Martin on YouTube.
