Hello from Mission Tx. Enjoy all the posts. Retired here last year from Kansas. Really good info here. I’m a kayaker and fish the areas around South Padre a lot(when possible) I appreciate all the tips especially the saltwater related ones. Im hoping this gets over soon so we can all get back to what we love doing !

Welcome to the digest Doc. Please put in your profile where your living at. That way you don't have to post it everytime. It also let's everybody know where your at. I been down there once. Long time ago, 45 years. That was in November and told the only fish up that way was Red Snapper and Sand Sharks and of course lots of Jellyfish. We used small squid to catch the Red Snapper. Used pieces or Red Snapper to catch Sand Sharks. Just be careful around the Jellyfish. Their juices can hurt (burning sensation) real bad. Make sure to keep your lines wet & tight.

Thanks for that info. I’ve had some experience with the jellyfish and learning the currents and tides has also been a lot of fun. Someone said “ if it looks sketchy it probably is”.

I’m low-key type. 10’ Ascend. Sit in. I’ve really enjoyed learning and fishing from it. I’m always looking at new stuff. Limited on my spending now that I’m retired but go every chance I get. Really like the saltwater fishing.

Welcome to the Forum, Doc. Stay away from the DonWes Flea Market, especially now. It's one of my wife's favorite places to shop. We spend the Winter months in So. Padre Island. There is a ton of places to kayak fish around SPI and I would imagine you have found most of them. Let me know if you need some direction. I never use anything but live shrimp for bait.

You are absolutely correct about Don Wes ! Thanks for the welcome. I’m 98%live shrimp also. Used some mullet and squid from time to time. Anxious to get back to it. Thanks again.

Just retired in Jan '18 and I too am a kayaker, somewhat new to it. Learned about the tides down in Jacksonville FL last summer, creates some real tough paddling. Welcome to the site Doc1005. Hey, guys. I grew up in Neodesha, KS and fished Fall River and Verdigres River and the flood control reservoirs around there. Neodesha is Osage Indian name for "meeting of waters" where the two rivers merge. The coal mining strip pits over near Pittsburg where I went to college were great bass waters. Remember my dad teaching me crappie fishing on Fall River over brush piles. Great memories. Now get to fish all the central Texas waters for bass. As soon as they open the ramps, that is.
