I used to pick a few along the trout stream when I was out fishing upstate.
Me thinks they are wild Spring Onions...good in salads.
We took a trip from jersey to west by God Virginia . I think we were at Dolly Sods . It was beautiful a stream with trout . Camp out with the boys . Our Niebor s we’re picking these . They showed us the wonders of ramp cuisine . We supplied the whiskey . What great

both are members of the allium family (onions) Ramps are wild and have a stronger garlicky taste than leeks.
Ramp allium tricoccum
Leek allium ampeloparsum
both are delicious in soup and braised with chicken thighs.....y'know

Poke salad is Phytolacca rigida. (Don't want to set off folks on here who love to mock common names from other parts of the country.)
a ramp is where you can drive up something over another surface and a leak is something escaping where it shouldnt be!!! Yeah im tryin to be funny.
the old farmers almanac email version just had an article on making soup with them and they called them ramps, different from leeks but similar ,they come up in woodlots this time of year.
