Personally I like orvis clear waters there warenty and customers service in shops are hard to match

Arguably most of today's BIG names are good. Their Top Tier, Mid tier and many of their introductory rods are completely serviceable, and nearly every major rodmaker in America has solid warranties for all but their cheapest rod sets.
Whether it is G Loomis, St Croix, Winston, Sage, Orvis, Redington, Hardy, Douglas, Thomas and Thomas, Scott or some other I'm sure I haven't mentioned you are gonna find quality equipment and craftmanship with all of them. And don't forget to check into smaller Custom Rod companies like Syndicate, c barclay, yellowfin rods. Often they can make you a personalized rod with their blanks or with sets from a preferred manufacturer.
All that being said, I have more Orvis rods than anything else.

I'm not sure there is a best brand. I have Sage, Courtland, St Croix, Thomas and Thomas, one a friend built for me a couple that I built and I love them all. Just depends on what day it is and which I'm in the mood for.

A friend who was a very knowledgeable Fly fisherman once told me that what really mattered is the rod, the reel is merely a "LINE HOLDER".

I truly agree, my granddad started me out in about 1971 with a rod some would call a P.O.S.
Well I still have that rod and it is really amazing what it has taught me. They say that a rod is an extension of your arm, yes physically true but it's actually an extension of you, and what you have learned about your self and how you look at the sport. Now I throw sage rods proudly.

American made rods are more consistent in casting qualities , I would attempt to cast several if possible then you can make a suitable choice .
If you cannot cast , then take lessons , once you have the basic idea your choice becomes much easier and you’ll get what suits you best , not what someone tells you to buy.
