It will give some protection from turtles, too. I know from experience 😉
Good luck.
I'll only keep a fish if my absentee, bass eating neighbor is in town. In that case, I put the bass on a stringer until I can dress it out and place it in a cooler that I keep in my car. I only fish small ponds, so I'm usually not too far from the launch site.
Get some nylon cable ties and tie a pool noodle around the top of your basket. If you get a big fish just unhook the basket from your kayak. Go back and get it after you land the whopper.

I did the same thing that Sumcatone suggested. I use a nylon stringer to attach to kayak. Works well. Get your fish basket and pool noodle
from Wal-Mart.
Pool noodles are a dollar at dollar stores.
any suggestion for someone looking to get a fishing kayak?
Nylon laundry bag tied to one side. Flop it across kayak to move, throw it in the water to fish, when there's fish in it.
Hello Reety; I fish from a 12 foot kayak and only fish and keep crappie and other pan fish. I use a cooler behind the seat with ice frozen in 2 litter bottles during the hot summer. I have used a wire basket as you mentioned but I don't like the drag or the possibility of snagging on submerged limbs or trash while fishing in shallow waters during the spawn. Best of luck!

He’s me in my kayak. It is tiny but it’s easy for me to haul up and down my hill.
What size fish do you fish for? I was thinking of a creel like they use for trout fishing and hang that over the side of your kayak and if that is to small then go with something larger but on the same principal as a creel.
What a beautiful spot you have there. Are there any game fish? What state are you in?
6”x24” or longer pvc screw cap on one end glued cap on the other. Drill 1” holes in the caps and the pipe. Tie a 2’ long piece of nylon rope to one of the caps and put a clamp on the other end and clamp it to the kayak. It’s going to create some drag, but you’ll be able to keep your fish alive.
I live on a private lake in a gated community in GA. There are a lot of underwater snags and fallen trees which do make it difficult for dragging a wire basket. I prefer catching bass and bluegill but this body of water does have its share of catfish. Thanks for all your comments. I like the idea of a cooler with ice behind the seat. Just have to install some cleats for latching it down.

Thanks. I’ve looked in local stores to no avail. My dad used to have one and I remember putting our little bluegills in it. That was my initial thought as well. Guess I’ll have to order on line.
Do you have a Walmart relatively close? They have them. Mike
Too crowded with people practicing virus protection.
