Guys I gotta let this out, in 2003 I had a failed back surgery the doctors told me I'd never walk again. After three years in a wheelchair I did get back up and walked.

This morning I went out for my morning walk and I ran again, I'm sure that's not much to a lot but this is something I've struggled with for 17 years now. I didn't run far but I ran. now this 220 pounds is as much weight as I've ever carried, it's gotta go, 180 here I come. If this virus don't kill me, I'm determined to get back to my old boxing weight 180. just goes to show Doctors don't know everything, with some stubborn determinedness hard work and the grace of God you can do many things the doctors say you can't

That is awesome Ivey. Congrats!! I remember I decided to try running several years ago and went out one evening and started down the street. I only went a few blocks and was so out of shape that I had to walk home. I went out the next evening and went one block further and kept adding another block each evening until I was doing 3 miles a day. I actually got to the point where I looked forward to it. lol. I don’t run anymore but we still take walks and ride our trikes and go hiking. Keep up the good work. I’m rooting for you. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ πŸ•Ί

Before 2003 I had slacked off on my running and only did maybe 10 miles a week on a good week. I loved running though, when I would hit that second wind there's nothing like it, I could go to another place in my mind. Last year was the first I've been able to walk a distance at all finally, got back up to 1 mile. Now I'm gonna shoot for the moon work up to that mark running, then more. Friends, I'm determined to get it back.

You made me cry,Ivey. I am SO happy for you. Having cheated death a few times(spinal meningitis as a teenager and melanoma twice in recent years) I can affirm that the Drs. don’t always consider God’s healing power when they give their prognosis. But we know that God is greater than any injury, disease, or ailment and still performs miracles in His children if we believe. Thank you for the inspiration. πŸ™πŸ»

Ivey your story is very inspirational.

First of all congrats on what you have mustard through and now accomplishing.

Thanks again Ivey for sharing.

Second thanks for a positive story in times that all we here is doom and gloom.

Watching the idiot box at night reminds me of 911. All that I saw was nothing but bad news but yet stayed glued to the TV waiting and waiting for something good to be reported. The same goes at night now just hoping prayers were answered and the virus is gone. Knowing only to well its not happening but hope keeps me tuned in.

You have given me an idea for a post for tomorrow. Keep an eye out for it.

Can't add much to what folks have said already. Sheer determination and will got you back. The power of the mind is amazing. We average 50 to 70k thoughts a day. 70% are negative. Makes it hard to have a positive attitude. Your story could inspire folks on this site. I've been told mine has which means a lot. To every time there is a season.

In 1981 I had a.motorcycle accident that left me with 7 breaks in my back, 4 broke ribs, broken arm, broken hip, ear cut off mostly, couphing up blood, kidneys shut down and undetermined various internal bleeds. Three others involved. 1 DOA, 1 internal injuries non life threatening, and one shattered knee. The Dr did triage, had me placed in exam room with lights out. Friends were coming in and out and finally I got someone to go wake my sister who was my closest relative. The Dr told her I was going to pass and told her what room I was in. On talking to me, she immediately called. An ambulance to take me 50 miles away to a better hospital. After a week my kidneys started working. The bone Drs started coming. 2 wanted to take my leg at the hip, the 3rd said he could save the leg but I would never walk or at most be in heavy braces the rest of my life. He saved my leg. 2 years later he finally discharged me but was in shock when I came in his office on 2 canes, no brace, but bent over at the waist like I was trying to tie my shoes. He told me he was amazed but not to let me fool myself that it would not last and I would end up in a wheel chair. 4 years later I passed my physical and went back to work as a correctional officer with no restrictions. 30 years after the wreck I finally because of arthritis had to have that seriously damaged hip replaced. So to all, if nothing else just be like me, believe in God and be stupid enough to not listen to everything your Dr says.

Another example of the power of the mind. The sheer determination and will to overcome what seems like insurmountable physical and emotional challenges, shows us what is possible. A truly amazing example of what is possible. I bet we have a lot of resilient people that post on this site. I may tell my story some day. I've been told it has inspired people. Not sure it measures up to olddawg and Ivey's though.
