Great Steelie! So much fun with friends. We are heading back to the Salmon on Wednesday for 4 days. Most of what we caught the last couple days were 22-24”in with a couple 28-30”.. We were up by Salmon, Id.

Don’t all those rivers up there in Idaho run out to the Columbia River in Washington then out to sea?

Salmon river & Clearwater river run into the Snake river that runs into the Columbia.
Columbia is border between Washington & Oregon .

Yes they do. First the Snake, then Columbia. That's why it's so amazing to catch one so far inland with all the dams and what not.
Thank you for sharing pics.

Ya I was pretty certain that was their only path out to the ocean. Your right bric. That’s one hell of a journey for sure. And imagine that the steelheads do it several times in their lives. 🥵🥵

Congrats! I've caught many
Sh out of the Clearwater. Havent been last few yrs because of the regs and lack of fish. Sure have caught some big fish. This one I'd guess at about 15-16 lbs.My pb is just over 19 lbs.

Thanks. Very nice fish, thanks for sharing. Well Idaho fish & game seems to think the run may be picking up here. They lifted size restriction day after I caught that one, they have most of the brood stock they want for the hatchery programs. So I am hoping to make it back at least once this season, 5 hr drive for me.

I didnt know they had lifted the size restrictions until I read your post. I may buy a permit now that I know. I'm 3-3 1/2 hrs away depending on road conditions.

Oh and that pic was taken just above the bridge at ahsaka on the n.f. It was one of those yrs of lots of rain so the dam was dumping water at 6-8000fps. Usually the water in that stretch is about 3 ft deep but it was about 6-9 ft deep depending on the day. Normal is 2500 to 3200 fps.
