I didn't know you could just replace the diaphragm. I think mine is just stretched out to much. It works fine in the morning when it's cold but later when it warms up it looses it's vacuum in the bulb. Especially if I want to go WOT. If I go slower it does better, so I know it's the fuel pump. It's a 2003 60HP 4Stroke Merc.

Is it a fuel injection model?

How old is the squeeze ball? If the check valve inside is shot it lets the fuel back to the tank.

You may want to put a fuel filter in your fuel line after the squeeze bulb, ethinal fuel will deteriate the inside of the fuel line and bulb (my experience).it would be nice to hear what you find

I never use gas with ethanol on my Merc. It’s really bad for them and gives you numerous problems on down the river.

If it’s the 150XRI it is a fuel injector motor
There are 3 separate fuel filters
The main one is a moisture separator easy to get at and clean
The toughest one is for the fuel injectors
A small screen but needs to be fixed by a service technician because it is tough to get at. Can’t access it unless you go into the main fuel module
I have this motor
1986 model
Still going strong!

Another thing
If the squeeze bulb remains hard it probably gonna be good
But if goes soft its an air leak or the bulb itself
That’s more than likely the issue if motor conks out

Before you do anything to this motor!!! Check compression and Spark if this is good then check your fuel delivery.

The motor runs for awhile before it dies out
Obviously there is compression and spark
