Anyone use a cork conditioner on their cork rod handles? Any recommendations?

You can get in Mudhole.com and buy cork sealer. If you have chunks missing out of the cork you can also get cork filler. Fill in the holes, sand down rough spots then seal it pretty easy.

On an older handle clean it off good with regular soap and water then seal it, one coat will do the job. It will be much easier to clean afterward.

Here's what I use when someone wants sealed cork . It does make it easier to clean but also makes it slick when wet

Well they do swell up pretty good. Get a cheap bottle of red and soak my St. Croix? That's a possibility.

I don’t either egg. I have left the plastic wrap on a new rod for awhile but the plain cork is better than having a hard type coating on it. The dye from some baits sure likes to get on the cork but o well.

I've used the u40 and didn't like the film build up. Then found a sealer used for cork sandals on Amazon. I can't remember the name of it. But it was much closer to a water consistency and it didn't get that thick paint film feel after it cured. Use the same method with detergant to clean and let it dry. It's been two years since I applied it. It's held up extremely well, and I fish about 5 to 10 days a month. Also I haven't tried but I would think that it can be applied over any type of cork filler. If you had to repair any damage. Hope this helps.

I have used the Trondak U40 cork sealer like egg said. It is very thin stuff and doesn't build up a thick coat.

Thanks for the inputs. I've never used anything on my rods and I've got some that have been around for quite a few years. They've got that well used patina on them, but other than that they seem to be in pretty good shape. Just wondering, you know? And looking for opinions.

Just looked in the garage. I got the 2 switched a round. Kelly's Cork Renew is like thinned down Elmer's Glue. I didn't like how it felt after drying.
