Almost looks like a Snakehead but depends where you’re fishing. Looks like ocean or lake.

Not a ribbon fish..that is the truth. I've caught many of them and this isn't one.

Checked with my husband Fred, .... he says it is a baracuda. Look at the overall shape of the fish, shape of head mouth, the teeth, and the spots.

No on all the Barracuda ideas. That is a Speckled Trout, and one of the finest eating fishes of the Gulf Coast. I fish freshwater & saltwater and have been fishing since I was 5 years old. I am 67 now, and I know what a speckled trout looks like. That particular one is a nice catch, but they do go upwards of 8 pounds. They have a soft mouth so when you set the hook don't go overboard with it. They bite best on live gulf shrimp, but also like fresh live finger mullet and occasionally will even bite some cut croaker bait if it is fresh. As far as artificial bait, silver spoons would be my go to choice, but have caught many on light colored spinners & some deep diving baits. I especially love to catch them in the month of May when they are running in the Surf as I usually find some great Spanish Mackerel running with them. Watch for the birds working the water & you just might come up on these schooling Speckled Trout, but caution...they are easily spooked.
