Imagine catching this monster. On Feb. 25, 2020 a new state record lake trout was caught here in New Hampshire. When they finally found a scale large enough, the fish weighed 37.65 pounds (broke record by 9 pounds+/-, back in 1957. A little over 40 inches long with a girth of 27" and estimated to be 50 to 60 years old. It was caught by a tuna fisherman, ice fishing in a small lake in northern New Hampshire. He used a 6" minnow for bait. Said it ran several times, the line tearing into the ice as it run. Used his years of experience tuna fishing to keep his lines from snagging, etc. Had to put both hands into the water and its mouth to pull it through the 10" hole he had cut. A picture of it can be found at nhfishandgame.com. (Sorry, not computer literate enough to show it here.) It was hugh, old, and looked like it had lived through a lot.
