With any luck they got out before the boat went through the dam. I really hate to hear this type thing, I was young once and did some pretty dangerous stuff myself. The Tennessee River is no place to be when it's flooded as it has been and the wind was up this past weekend too. I've seen 6 ft standing waves when there's with wind and current on Pickwick. Saw a 21' Ranger spear one of those waves and yes a Ranger will sink too, no matter what the adds say. I have personally fished 6 people out of Pickwick Lake 4 from a small aluminum boat and 2 out of the Ranger, luckily they all lived.

Not real sure how the boat got through the dam, I don't fish that end a lot but I thought the release gates let water out from below the waterline. about 20 ft down if I remember right.

I’ve sauger fished there but don’t recall the operation
In KS. at coffey county aka Wolfcreek power plant lake they will not let you on the lake if the wind is blowing above a certain MPH or is supposed to that day.
It white caps something awful nothing to block the wind at all.
We are praying for the ones that are missing, also please remember their families.

A lot of Pickwick lake runs east to west. Current runs west, when there is a wind from the west it stacks the current up into monster waves. It can be one of the more brutal lakes on the Tennessee River. In places it's close to a mile wide so the wind can really howl. Along with underwater rock piles and other shallow structure If you don't know the lake better off going the first time with someone who does know it. It regularly produces trophy Smallmouth 6 pounds and over but it can be deadly going after them. I've fished there for 40 years and I still find shallow places I didn't know about and are not on any maps.
I truly feel for these people and their families but there are several accidents on Pickwick almost every year. A shame two of these are so young. I've seen people run up on top of the rock piles and mess up their boats and motors more than once.
Always sad to hear news like this...

Read this morning the missing teens and father are still missing, their boat was found approx. 15 miles down river , below the dam, near Savanah TN. it said their motor wasn't working right at the tournament start and were going to fish using the trolling motor.
