Welcome Trinity: you have come to the right place. Catfish ain’t hard if you have the bait, my and fathers was live perch! Bigger the better! Might consider night fishing since they mostly are active then! Now 2 to 3 lbs are better eating than the biguns but you can do both! Just sayin...RJS

Thanks for the welcome. You are right about good eating. I use perch when I can get them, but hard to get in cold weather. I use a lot of cut bait.

TC welcome to the stage. A lot of good free info on here and if you share your location in the user profile so we know where you are coming from, might just have a neighbor of yours on here.

Welcome Trinity. Nice catch!. Buddy of mine and I went on Lake Travis yesterday in Austin, TX. Lingered over coffee until about 8:30 to let the temp move up from 32 degrees to about 40. Caught several bass but nothing over about 2.5 lbs. My biggest catch was a blue catfish about 4 lbs. He hit a texas rigged baby brush hog in water melon candy hard. Water temp was 57.6 up to 58.8. All were released to be there for our next tournament. Tight lines all. P.S. that first run across the lake was brutal. Felt like someone hit me in the forehead with a hammer. When the sun came out it was a beautiful day on the lake.

Used to live in Baytown years ago and fished the Trinity at I10. Would use swamp rabbit as beat. It was always fresh. Always caught cats. You can also get in to some large gar that rip some line off.

Hey, Robert, my husband and I are retired too and live in the same area. Do you know of a good place we can fish from the bank or pier? Doesn't have to be Trinity River. I don't have a boat big enough to fish the river or lake. Thanks, Cindy
