Thanks, everyone, for all the help, especially Salty Dog. I have tried hermit crabs but not the little green like crab, nor his hooks. Thank You!
Have to laugh...I get so ticked that I just put down my rod...get my flippers, mask & pole spear & go in after them...
Up north the best bait just as good as fiddlers was skimmers. Skimmers are just big claims look like overgrown little necks that are full of sand. Stays on the hook better than anything except squid. Great for porgies, sheephead, flounder, sea bass etc. Hard to find skimmers here in the panhandle of FL. Did find one repeat 1 at a bait store in Jacksonville, FL years ago. Everyone thought I lost my mind when I asked for it but was the only one to catch anything on the pier that day. Just a couple of flounder.
The Atlantic surf clam (Spisula solidissima), also called the bar clam, hen clam, skimmer or simply sea clam,[1] is a very large, edible, saltwater clam or marine bivalve mollusk in the family Mactridae. It is commonly found in the western Atlantic Ocean. Reaching up to 20 centimetres (7.9 in) or more in length, it is much larger than Spisula solida, which resides in the eastern Atlantic waters off of Great Britain.
The shell of this species is a well-known object to beach-goers in the northeastern United States. People on the beach often pick up a large empty shell of this species, either to dig in the sand with, or take home to use as a decorative dish or ashtray.
The species is exported commercially as a food item. Just an FYI for you guys...
Don’t try to catch them and you will.
My kids resemble that remark...

Welcome to the Forum, Ty, My grandson is named Ty. Yes, I'm going to try to catch them. Trust me, I won't succeed.
You're not holding your tongue correctly...anyway worked with my kids much to my surprise.
Good luck...

So, you go with 30# braid without any leader? Hook size and style? Hard to come by those fiddlers in the Wintertime when I'm here. I have heard that they are as good as anything.
Sorry it's been a while 18in floracarbon leader but I don't remember the hook size. I haven't gone after sheepshead in 18 or 20 years.
