I’m planning on fishing off a pier the next couple days. Not able to access any fancy lures or live bait. Any grocery store suggestions that are best for catching fish?

Clams or squid should be available at a grocery store maybe in the frozen section. Sometimes I see mackerel in local grocery stores probably depends on season.

Corn, bread, hot dogs, lil smokies, chicken livers, raw bacon, marshmallows... all proven. Start turning over rocks on shore for worms, crawfish under rocks in shallow water, grasshoppers, crickets.
Also hit up the craft section, yellow and red yarn might do the trick!

What are you fishing for? Salt or fresh? If you have an idea of what your targets are you can get a better picture of what might work.

Salt. Idrk what exact species bc I’m new to saltwater. I’m going on vacation and thought I’d be fun to try, so just in general for any species.

Go to an Asian grocery store and grab shrimp. It's fairly cheap and a little bit on a small hook goes a long way.

A lot of grocery stores will carry shrimp and maybe even bait squid. I'd start there, get yourself like a half pound of fresh shrimp, not frozen if possible. Definitely not cooked! None of that orange crap. Then work yourself up the food chain! Try to catch some smaller fish and then chunk them up for some cut bait or, if small enough, throw them out whole.

Raw shrimp is definitely your best choice if they are a Walmart near they will have a fishing section pick up some fishbites in blood worm flavor just uses small pieces about a half inch long. If using shrimp peal it and just use small chunks of it.

I would definitely pick up some Shrimp.
Hit the closest Walmart pick up a couple 2 hook rigs and about 3oz pyramid weight some #4 hooks add hooks and the fresh shrimp if available, cast out wind up the slack put the rod down sit down and enjoy the fresh air, and if you catch any fish that’s a plus but if you don’t it will be well worth the experience and the price, enjoy your time and God Bless 🦈
