Man Found Dead in Lake Palmdale After Disappearing on Fishing Trip.....

A missing man’s body was recovered from Lake Palmdale Thursday, a day after he vanished while on a fishing trip, officials said.

Robert Lewis Mercer, 34, originally checked out a small fishing vessel from the Palmdale Fin and Feather Club a little after 6 a.m. Wednesday, according to Los Angeles County sheriff’s Deputy Ronald Sneed.

By 9:40 a.m., he was reported missing, Sneed said.

“The workers here found an anchored boat with fishing gear inside of it, right next to the dock,” he said. “There was no boater inside of it.”

Crews immediately began searching, with the operation involving divers, sonar technology and aerial units. When those efforts were suspended around nightfall Wednesday, rescuers and scent dogs came in to search the area around the lake, officials said.

Sonar and dive efforts resumed early Thursday morning, and around 12:30 p.m. Lewis’ body was recovered from the lake, authorities said.

The remains were handed over to coroner’s officials, who were working to determine a manner and cause of death.

Not yet, hopefully the coroner will be able to shed some light on how he died. That might give us a clue as to what happened.

Gordon I know what your saying. I’ve always said “I like to fish but love to hunt”. And when it’s my time to go, I would love to be sitting in a tree 15 feet closer to god when I check out!

He left the dock at 6:00 am and was reported missing at 9:40 am. Something is fishy there. Prayers, bro.

Probably because the boat was still at the pier. Sounds like he fell in before or after a heart attack. Then again could have lost his footing and hit his head. Coroners report I am sure will clear it up.

For myself I hope the Lord calls me home while I am sleeping. That in the tree or doing what I enjoy scenario sounds like pain may be involved. Lay me down, say my prayers, see you later. Yep that's my way to want to go.

Enough about what is inevitable Tight Lines my friends.

I hate to hear about the fella too. About three years ago I went dear hunting by myself about 10 miles from home and never told my wife where I had gone. When time to leave the deer stand, about 4 ft off the ground, I opened the door and went to step down the stairs. I missed the first step and landed face first on the ground in a bunch of briers. It knocked the breath out of me and hurt like h####. Laid there for awhile knot knowing if I could get up. Finally I moved and got my feet under me and made it up. Got on home and never told her about it. It goes to show you that anything can happen and you do need to let someone know where you are going. Just like recently when I broke my leg, I had to call my wife on the cell phone and let her know where I was.

Prayers for the fisherman and his family!

I have always deer hunted by myself until I screwed my neck up loading a deer wrong in my truck. You have to always be thinking safety when you do. Always let my wife know where I’ll be and when I’ll be home.

I wasn’t thinking about an accident, but a heart attack that would take me out, but going while asleep works for me too!

Yes, a friend of mine who is older had bypass surgery plus a stint or two, has his cell phone programmed so his wife can trace where he is. Not because he is bad or anything. Just to keep up with him. He is always hunting. He is an expert bow hunter. Last year he went to Colorado and brought back a bear he shot at about 10 yards. Another friend of ours went to Main bear hunting. He said he ain’t gonna hunt with a bow. He uses his rifle. Took him about three shots to get his.
