Hello out there, as an AVID fisherman that seeks small quiet waters, I fish from a 14ft Dolphin canoe. As I have aged {now in my 70's} loading this 75lb canoe on top of any vehicle has now become a chore with major injury implications. I am interested to know if anyone has seen or heard of a canoe {not kayak} loader that would allow me to effortlessly load this beast on top of my Ford Explorer {2006}. Ihave seen the T-bar swing type and at only 5ft 5" tall I still do not think this would work well as I have very short arms as well. I have searched the web and nothing fits the bill. Any suggestions

If you can open up the back and stick the bow in there and then place it on a bed extender? Would that work for you?

And chazme can you please add your location to your profile? I know some really sweet places around where I live that would fit your build for fishing, but I got no idea where you're at. How about letting us all know?

If you have a trailer hitch, mount an extension, put the canoe inside the hatch the back, tie it down to the extension. The extension can be a converted bike rack, or make your own. Anyone witk welding skills can make it in an hour +- a few minutes.

if you have a tree with a strong lower limb, you could lift the canoe with a come along and pulley, drive under and lower on top.

I use crutches due to polio. I trailered my 17 foot canoe on a used 14 foot boat trailer for years. I bought it used for about $100 and modified it for my canoe. Launched and loaded it myself for years. I bought a 14 foot Jon boat a few years ago with a shorelander trailer and have adapted for loading and unloading myself as well. When there is a will, there is a way....or a widow!

Although some I've seen are a little pricey, I've seen some on
the 'net' that you can load
from the side of your vehicle,
then lift and slide/secure on
top ! There's one on a TV commercial showing an older couple loading their kayaks onto their SUV, but it's only seen and not mentioned as it's a non-
related subject ! The one
pictured here is for kayaks, but there should be similar models
for canoes ! Found this site on
my phone in five minutes; a
more thorough search on a computer should yield some results as to style you want/
prefer and location of local dealers !

Here's a different style that I've
found; should you not find one specifically for canoes, then maybe you should consider a model that you could convert/
adapt to your needs ? Just something to think about, as I have no clue as to your budget
limitations !

Sell everything you got except the Conor and buy a waterfront place and you won’t ever need to load it again. Just walk out into it.

I'm 73 and done with car-topping my 12 ft. kayak. I bought a Trailex trailer for $1,300. Check them out.
