As the title says I want try kayaking this summer. I already have all the fish equipment. So what would be the cost for a cheapish kayak.

$250 for a Lifetime Tamarack and you're in the game.

Options expand for every $100 more that you're willing to spend.

You can get a new fishing kayak at Dunham’s for less than $200 on sale. I’ve had one for a couple years now and it’s served me well, it just needed a seat cushion. Let me put it this way: I fish from it a half-dozen times a year, on still and flowing waters, and I have no intention of replacing it. I doubt it’s advisable to spend more than $500 on something you’re not even certain you’re going to enjoy using.

Take in to account your heigh and weight also. Last thing you want is something that doesn’t float well or if your smaller something to heavy for you to transport.

Remember you get what you pay for. If finances are the issue consider saving up. Warranty of the craft was a concern when purchasing mine.

I’m in the process of upgrading myself. I’ve had a Sun Dolphin Aruba 10 for the past several years. I prefer sit in. So now I’m narrowed it down to an Old Town Vapor 10 or a Perception Sound 10. The Sound is like the Perception Hook 10, sold by Dicks, but $90.+ cheaper. Both can be had for around $500. depending on sales. Both get good reviews and should meet your needs.

My recommendation is don't go for the cheapest one you can find. In the long run you will upgrade and end up spending more. Do your research. It needs to be safe so something that is stable is important. You don't want to loose any of your gear if you flip. Watch YouTube videos on kayak fishing. That will answer a lot of questions. I started looking at $400 and ended up spending $4000 on my hobie.

Check out the AVALON 120 (12 FEET, 3 INCHES). I recommend nothing less than 12 feet long. It is a great set-up, and the seat is comfortable. Lots of space for your gear, too. $500 at WalMart.

This is sit-on-top kayak. Don't buy a "sit-in" kayak because they restrict your movement and your vision (the lower you are in the water, the less you will be able to see into the water around you).
