Douglas Lake for TN anglers

Have any of my fellow TN anglers fished Douglas Lake in east TN? I don't have a boat and am looking for some good off the shore spots to fish crappies. Any help in terms of locations or nearby landmarks is appreciated.

CRAPPIE:

White crappie stocking: 2009 - 182,520; 2008 - 36,090; 2007 - 15,000; 2005 - 15,000
Crappie are normally very abundant and extremely popular with Douglas anglers, but their numbers have declined somewhat during the past several years. There is a minimum size limit of 10-inches with a 15-fish daily creel. The TWRA has constructed a crappie rearing pond on Henderson Island to produce fingerlings for Douglas during years of poor natural reproduction.

How to access the best fishing:

You can certainly fish from the shores of Douglas Lake, but to maximize your chances of a plentiful catch, consider renting a watercraft. You can head into different areas of the lake, including one of the many coves that you could probably claim as your own. H2O Sports and Swann’s Marina rent out pontoons and other boats and are close to Christopher Place.

Another option is to sign up for a guided fishing trip, which will take out the guesswork of finding the best angling spots and offer plenty of camaraderie for the day’s outing.

Hi ghaynes, the level is down around 40 ft from summer pool. That means there is a lot of “bank” to fish from. Easy places are camp grounds and bridges. If you travel I40 and exit on either side of Douglas to hiway 25 you can find parking on either end of the bridge and fish there or near fanchers or swans’s dock. Any of those guys are glad to help you out. Brink a good size bucket. It will fill quickly.

Another easy place to get to is the hiway 92 bridge in Dandridge. The public ramp on the south end of the bridge has several places to fish as well as the bridge itself. Some of the best spring fishing is in the river near white pine off hiway 25E south of I-81 exit 8.

I live in Rogersville at the tail waters of Cherokee but I’ve fished Douglas for 30 years.
