Hello Johnkras, Welcome to the forum. I see that you are from Northern California can you narrow it down a little? Oh! someone ask you that question I see, sorry. What type of fishing are you interested in? Do you fish out of a boat or from the shore, maybe wade rivers and streams?

I’m fishing the Russian River 4 Steelhead from the shore. Using roue off the bottom, tried some bobbing no results bobbing.

Russian River just north of Bodega Bay? Is that Jennings over there? I'm typing my brain out loud. No, it's Jenner. If you are brand new to steelhead fishing invest a little money in a guide or if you can find a local fisherman to show you the ropes that would work too. Steelhead aren't too hard to catch, but they can be a real pain to find if you don't know what you're looking for. And for gosh sakes make sure they're in season and that it's legal to fish for them where you're at. California rules and regs can be tricky. BTW, drifting roe is a great way to catch them - once you find them. That's what they're doing usually up them rivers, following the spawning salmon and eating their eggs. Don't know a thing about bottom fishing for them. Just throw it out and wait? Like I said, you gotta find em first.
