Washington state is very popular Kokanee fresh lakes fishing. Most lakes has a 10 fish limit. To make this more fun buying Beads, spinner blades, clevse for wedding rings. plastic small squid for hootchies. Making my own lures saves about 2 or 3 dollars per lure. making several lures different color patterns adds up. Supplying lures and rigging up rods for 4 or 5 people fishing. Yep it can be fun.

Several lakes in my area in California have Kokanee. The best thing about them is their taste. One lake I fish regularly has a healthy brown trout population and they feed on the kokes. You find the schools of koke and you will find the browns hanging out. Guess what works for bait. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

We have Kokanee here in Wyoming also.limits only 3 here. State record is close to 7, lbs. Making your own stuff is half the fun. Here we jig for them once they group up into super schools or when they come thru when jigging for lake trout. Best day I've had jigging was 63 fish by noon.

Those are really nice lures Bdubya. I used to troll for kokes in my kayak on New Melones reservoir in the California gold country. I would use a fish seeker to get to the right depths with a watermelon dodger and usually a pink hootchie with garlic scented corn on the tip of the hook. Killer set up.

I've been by New Melones several times, but I've never fished it.

I have fished for Kokanee in Las Vegas. Didn’t really have any experience with fishing for them. Got lucky 🍀 and caught 3 small ones.

nice thing about fishing Kokes you do not need a down rigger. poor mans down rigger 4 or 5 ounces of slip sinker in front of the dodger add a rubber snubber in front of the lure prevents the heavy sinker from ripping the hook out of the fishes mouth.

Catching Kokanee is a blast. I started out making my own rigs as well. That’s fun to just make stuff up an see which ones work.
