Wader zipper: yea or nah?

Just curious if those of you with a fancy front zipper on their waders find it necessary or useless luxury? In the market for new waders and considering the front zipper, but also wondering what the likelihood is that zipper leaks in a few years.

So my buddy had the Simms wader pants with the zipper and has had then for a few seasons. He’s retired and fished a lot. No problems. He loves the zipper and honestly I am envious of his waders.

I’d say if you can afford it, and pee a lot, it’s worth it.

I have some pata waders that have the zipper.. it's great for peeing and getting in and out of but i feel like overall it makes the whole front a little too bulky.. I'm about to pick up some lighter zipperless waders.

Most of the guys I know who have zippers are pro staff and change waders every year. I don't really trust those zippers after 5 years zipping and unzipping. I may be wrong though, but the plus-value VS the risk of leaking wasn't enough to spend the extra 50$ for me.

Seems convenient, but also seems like the zipper is the the first thing that will fail.

I'm sticking with standard waders 'til i get that swoll old man prostate.

A zipper usually ends up failing. they never put a big enuff zipper in anything. Pampers how ever never fail. And will keep you dry for hours.

I guess it's the age old question "TO ZIP OR NOT TO ZIP"

I had zipper waders one time, they lasted three years like most of them do, I fish a lot. They were nice for taking a pee with but not worth it. Just thought that I would try them once, they didn't leak at the zipper, but I usually go in as deep as the zipper either. (?)

I fish trout all winter in harsh conditions at times and use a pair of Aquaz Zip 4 ply bootfoots with Boggs insulated ,
5 season no issues with zip and can allow the adding of more clothes if required !
One issue cold weather zipper can get tough but I spray with silicone that fixes that issue !
Luv mine !

I have had Redington zipper waders for several years with no problem. Easy on and off and answering natures call. There is a fellow puts horizontal zipper on any wader for about $80. Ez-P by Bob Anderson.

Surf fisher? Sand and zippers don't mix.
