Went carping in the 64 degree Millstone River on the south shore in West Windsor, NJ, this evening in the cold rain with a light northwest wind. 12 cars 🚙 were in the parking lot when I arrived. Someone was fishing in my lake spot again like Sunday, so I went to the river. Found canned whole kernel corn 🌽 on the ground and in the water. Intruders took over all of my fishing 🎣 spots. I’m most likely to catch nothing on all of my fishing trips. NJ is too crowded. Threw out a can of corn for chum, then caught a 22” common carp. A spot jumper came over to my fishing 🎣 spot, then I gave him my fish. Caught an 18” common carp and the spot jumper returned with a crowd, then started fishing next to me. I gave him my second fish, then left. Aldi’s corn is great carp bait for 63 cents per can.

NJ, spot jumpers are not just found in crowded areas of the nation. They can be found even in the wide open areas too. There is one large lake on the southern border of Nebraska we do not fish because it is famous for having people spread over in their boats, getting practically on top of people when they see a fish caught. Then it's time to leave.
And that's not including those who are so lost in their lives scope that they would run into you if you don't say something to get their attention.

I grew up fishing carp in the Passaic River in Paterson. Left in 1970 when I finished college, married, and moved to Flagstaff, Az.
I do not miss New Jersey, and especial NOT opening day of trout season. Bless you for making the best possible while living there.

I truly try to fish where others aren't. I won't fish near others if I'm in a boat. When I see others fishin where I wanted to fish I usually just go to another one of my spots I like to fish just so I don't have to fish around someone else.
I know LOTS of different spots that usually hold fish and I don't HAVE to share a fishin hole with someone else.
Besides, I really don't like catchin fish in view of someone else. They have a tendency to come over and fish right on top of you. I've had it happen several times. Someone SEES you catch a fish and they come right over and want to fish YOUR spot. I truly dislike that. So I try my best to fish where others AREN'T.

I believe it. If you're fishin within sight of someone else and they SEE you catch a fish, it seems like they usually come right over next to you and cast right where you are fishin.

As a lifetime fisherman, my Father always stressed courtesy on the water. One of the most important lessons he taught was to respect the space of other sportsman (hunters and fishermen). Many of the time I have had to move from one spot because of selfish wannerbees that sponge off some elses knowledge. How incredibly annoying it must be to be approached and trespassed . I am very familiar with the Millstone as it flows thru East and West Windsor that used to be very productive until overfished.

Nice fish. I love your basic fishing rigs! I had a boat in Atlantic Highlands for many years ocean fishing off the beaches along Sandy Hook. Sometimes I would go 5 to 10 miles offshore with not a soul in sight. As soon as I pulled up a fish (usually a sea robin) boats began to appear out of no where. Don't know if they had drones or binoculars looking for the fishing net being lowered in the water :) Within an hour there would be 10 boats in the area. Time to move again..... It's a big ocean.

My parents taught me to be courteous to others at all times not just while fishing . Yeah spot jumpers exist everywhere. The most annoying are when I am bank fishing. In the Northeast bank fishing opportunities are scarce between private land and heavy forest and brush you are limited. It’s frustrating when you are patient , finally find the fish and some guy in bass boat with all the electronics decides I am a better fish finder and over he comes. I have started kayak fishing smaller ponds . Less traffic often motor size limits and certainly speed limits. Generally avoids the problem but not always.
