Great job catching J I troll the bandits lures some in the river the 200 size works good the river is around 15’ deep. I going to invest in a couple plainer boards.

Thanks Mike! Planners are my favorite to use because even though I’m fishing from a boat with a 5’ beam I’m still able to spread my lures over about 60ft of width. Creating my own school of injured looking bait fish. If you buy some I’d recommend the walleye board type. The are the most expensive but they are clearly the best. The locking pin feature assures you can’t accidentally pop the whole planner free. It’s happened before to me.πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ. And no matter what type you use I’d switch the release to a Sam’s pro release or the Amish outfitters version. They are way better than the releases that come with the boards. Work well with any line. Standard releases aren’t great for braided line.

Hit the ramp about 5:15 on a beautiful partly cloudy Sunday afternoon. Air temp was 70 with a 5 to 10 knot southwest wind and the water temp ranged from 56 to 59. Got some good info at the ramp from a nice fella on his way out. Said they were catching them in close off the Gold Coast trolling bandits 35-40ft back. Since his report and my plan pretty much lined up I was feeling confident. We started trolling just after Edgewater beach 1.6-1.8 MPH headed dead west in 16-26 ft of water. The graph was showing plenty of life so why not, I figured. Ran 2 perfect 10’s, 2 Bandits, a Flicker Minnow and a Husky Jerk. Took about 45 min to get our first on a Perfect 10 40ft set back. 20 min later we got our second fish on a Bandit 35 ft set back. 15 min later we got another on the Husky Jerk set back 50. Five minutes after that we had our forth on a flicker minnow 35ft back. Then we hit a lul and it wasn’t until we turned north mid way thru our turn around that we got out 5th fish on a Bandit set back 40ft. 20 min later we got our sixth fish on the Husky Jerk set back 50ft. Trolled back east till 8:40 then called it a day. We fished from 16-36ft of water and there were plenty of fish. The key was to keep your lures in that 10-15 ft running depths. We caught on purple, green, yellow, blue/red,& blue/green. Basically color didn’t matter. That’s why I like to keep a variety out even if I catch a lot on one particular color one day. All fish caught where post spawn males. Beautiful evening on Lake Erie couldn’t ask for more!!

Tight lines

Thanks. I was a novice with the planners last year when I started to use them. Hadn’t used them in 30 years since I was a kid and back then grampa was doing all the rigging I just reeled them in. Really learned some of the finer points of trolling and using them at Walleye School. I highly recommend it. They actually did one closer to me that I missed. Probably check that out next year.
