Why was the 18 incher not enough for dinner this year?

It would’ve been good last year but due to the new regs, he’s no longer legal 🫤

So I took my 10 year old and his friend out on the Feather today. Around 7:30a my son’s friend lands a nice 20” keeper after a HELLUVA fight for that size fish! I hook it to the last rung of my stringer and think to myself that it just doesn’t seem secure so I hook it to the next rung up. Mind you these are the 2 rungs I use the most. After about 15 minutes my son says (jokingly) “wouldn’t it be funny if the fish got off?”……NO! As he says it his friend looks down and says, “where’s the fish?” The sucker got off! 😂 it was disappointing but we all had a good laugh about it. My son caught a nice 18 incher and I told him it would’ve been dinner last year but not this year. All in all it was a great morning. I got the boys into some fish and we got to bond like men. Can’t wait for the next trip.
So I took my 10 year old and his friend out on the... (show quote)

I lost a large pike way back when from a stringer like that. Ever since then, when I get a larger, stronger fish I'm going to keep, I put two links into it.

Wow. We still have the 18 inch min length. No max as of yet but we're suppose to go to a slot limit this year or next.

Too bad about the fish getting off Mc, but looks like the boys (and you) had a great time!

They really have slot limits in California:-) I thought out there anything goes, are there any regulations on immigrant fish? If it's like the ways our laws are going now, why even carry a tape measure just call it culling the ocean!! Call is a protest and they let you go, even supply you with some funds so you stay out of trouble!

No, I’m just an idiot 😂 I thought the new regs had taken effect already. Only a matter of time in this state 🤷‍♂️

Maybe not, some salmon fans are lobbying to get strippers classified as an invasive species and remove all limits and restrictions. So then I could keep and eat all those 8- 12 inch strippers I catch at Shanghai Bend.

I was wondering why we’re protecting something that decimates all other species 🤷‍♂️
