Good morning all, I’ll be at Pena Blanca fishing for bass this Tuesday with my fly rod. I’ll be in my waders along the bank. Any tips or fly recommendations would be appreciated. My first time fishing for bass. Thanks.

I would start with what weight Rod are you using and floating line or sinking either way I would be stripping big articulated streamers such as any of the Kelly Galloupe streamer line of products, keep that streamer moving with lots of action, mix it up till you see what they’re interested in, also try to incorporate up and down action as your stripping try to use colors associated with the local bait forage , start off with smaller presentations as most bait fish are on the smaller side this early in the year , Good luck and send some pics use anything along this line ,if you’re rid is heavy enough I’ve been known to chuck rubber worms with my fly rod but remember to strip set the hook or you’ll have a lot fall off
Thanks cougarbaby. Your info was fantastic!!! Tight lines!!!
From shore you say.... And first time. . . I would take the regulars line wooly bugger, any sort of streamer and some form of a top water fly.a small popper even the cheapos from wal Mart. There are fantastic bass in there I haven't been since the did work on the dam and dredged it. So I don't know if the weedbeds are as developed as they once were. It will be a tough go from shore especially for a beginner. But there are also some nice red ear sunfish, tilapia , trout, crappie, and your everyday sunfish and bluegill. I e got many nice fish flyfishing there. But have never braved it from shore. Have fun!
