If you're in saltwater or brackish, it looks like a hardhead catfish. IMO much better tasting than their freshwater counterparts.

They do taste great. Some people don't believe it. Think they are trash fish.

Yeah I know, I don't get it. Just don't poke yourself with the spines, they hurt for a few days.

Catfish are scooling fish. They have a slime coat on their body to protect them from the spines of other catfish. So if you ever get stuck ,which can hurt, just rub the catfish tail on the spot, all pain gone instantly..DONT'T BELIEVE ME ,TRY IT.
darn..wish I knew that when I got spined in florida years back by a runt saltwater cat I was taking off the hook...thing literally hurt for days!
That is a channel catfish. As they mature they loose their spots. Great fish fried.
