Wow, I envy you. That one is on my bucket list. Thank you!! for releasing it to breed another day. One hint is to hold those big guys horizontally instead of vertical. They are so heavy that the neck vertebrae and gill structure can be seriously injured to the point of death. I like to weigh them in the net as I bring it out of the water and then photo them horizontal. Those big guys are not so good to eat. I have finally settled on eating under 5 pounders. The 18 inch pike taste very close to walleye.

I’ve eaten a 16 pounder and it was delicious. Fed a lot of people. I had tried to release, but it was too exhausted. It initially swam away seemingly normal, but my cousin found it hours later floating belly up, so we harvested it. It took 40 minutes on 8 lb line to land it the first time.

That is a nice one JB. I bet that took sometime getting her in the boat. Congrats 👍

Maybe Kokanee salmon on that dude’s menu. We used to snag them upriver on the spawn. Great coloration in your big fish.
😬

Unfortunately, holding it horizontally was impossible for a pic, as I was solo.

Now that is one "Monster" catch. How long did it take to get it in? Grats to you buddy, now you will have to fish with Tim and I this summer. LOL

Hahaha. Long ! Exploded on my jackhammer chatterbait. All I could think of was “there goes $16”. 😉. Chased him around on the trolling motor, around the boat multiple times… then a complete fire drill once boat side trying to get boga grip on his lip without getting bit. It wasn’t a pretty show ! Hahaha

Ahh, but a show I would pay to see! Having had a few of those in my lifetime, always wondered how I didn't end up in the water once or twice

And I would have love to show you too. Unfortunately I was solo and would need a 8 ft arm to stretch camera out… and no way am I laying that slimy fish on my carpet. Just saying. 😁

JB, I have seen a lot of pike but I don't think any of them could equal that giant. I have taken home plenty of 30-32 inch pike and none were close to looking like that beast. Miçhigan has a Catch and Release record book along with the regular one. Your catçh would easily make either one. Congrats on a fish that most of us will only dream of getting.
