So on my way home a few days ago I made a few stops at the lake to try for pike off the bank. I didn't get any hits from pike, but I did catch 3 of what I think are Walleye fry. They were all about 2" long. I snagged them with a jerkbait. There must have been hundreds of them right next to shore. I would have thought if these were from last year they would be a lot bigger than this. As most info says 1 year old eye's are from 4" to 6" and I don't see how these are this years hatch as the lake water temp is still in the low to mid 40's. Anyone here know walleye spawning habits?

The game warden at the local lake we fish most often here in Nebraska said that the walleye spawn should be in full swing next week. The prime spawning areas are restricted from being fished from sunset to sunrise the first two weeks of April every year. The water temp on Tuesday of this week was 45° on average.

Mid March to May. PA closes Walleye season during this time for the spawn.

I was thinking the same thing. Perch do spawn earlier than lot of others.

lens.google.com suggests something like a Volga Pikeperch.
A handy site that attempts to identify any image in a photo.
I uploaded your image.

Unfortunately we don't live on the same continent that the Volga Pikeperch do Stephen. I'm sticking with Yellow Perch.

Last year, I found a couple of things that looked just like that. Really close in size at Anderson ranch, way south of your hood. There’s no history of walleye in that reservoir. On first inspection, I wondered if they might be walleyes.
I’m not sure I’ve seen yellow perch that looked like that but that’s what swims there.
I think we just need to ask, they apparently are perch, but we really need to ask how they identify. They may insist they are tarpon and who are we to judge?
Howdy from the big bassthird south of you.
While I’m at, thanks for your informative posts!

Hey welcome to the stage Bassthird I haven't seen you before 🤪. I don't know but If the state stocked walleye out there they probably did yellow perch also.

Thanks for the welcome, very kind of you. However I have been offending the good folks on this site for a while now. I’m still pretty sure they were perch but when I first saw them I was thinking walleye?
I can understand why F&F might have wondered. You know they say great minds think alike, on a different note, so did ours.
Thanks again.
