The jig replaces the split shot. A third, or half a crawler threaded onto the hook will do the job. Use a slip bobber for ease of casting!

I prefer a kind shank eagle claw 4 black hook caught up to 9 lb cat on them. 5 split shot about 3-4 inches above the hook

I've done both. Caught more on a jig bouncing up and down beneath a float some times, and other times catch more of worms or crickets. My bigger fish (panfish) is usually from a jig. I also use a 'chatter bait' 1/8 to 1/4oz.

Forgot to add that the jig should be able to be presented horizontally, so the line tie should be on top. Small twister tails work, too. Try to fish just above them as darn near everything feeds up! Wind can add movement, as well as small twitches and pauses. Good luck!

Maybe doesn’t have to be drop shot hooks but that’s what I use, crickets fit on the size 1 perfectly

Bluegills, Sunfish, Perch, Rock Bass,
Do you catch more casting or jigging or just using a plain old worm?

Ed, if you want to try lures, pick up a few panfish jigheads 1/32-1/8 oz, and some plastic curly or paddle tails. You can fish them with a straight retrieve, or under a fixed bobber, or a slip bobber if the water is deeper. You can also pick up a couple little Beatle Spins too. They're all fun.

Don't know why but I have yet to catch anything on my Beatle Spins

That beetle spin with the auger tail looks like what I’ve been using lately.
