Just tie off the main line to your trailer, so when your boat starts floating you can pull out slowly and tie the main to the dock. Then go park and come back.

Just be careful doing this. if you pull out to fast, (out of the water) then the boat might run up and hit the ramp.

I use a 50 ft 1/4 inch nylon rope when doing a rope launch. Gives me plenty of room to pull up enough to get to the rope before all the slack is used.

So now if I'm teaching someone to back up a trailer, I tell them to grip the bottom of the steering wheel and just turn the direction you want the trailer to go. Much easier.
