From Central Alabama what is best time and place to take my wife Mahi fishing without a long offshore run? I appreciate advice and prefer not to have to drive to the Florida Keys.

Me too cause I’d try it to they’re my favorite fish to eat
A friend of mine caught a bunch of them trolling 25 miles out from PC. That was a long time ago however. With the restrictive limits the fed has placed on all salt water species, I do not know if it would be worth the fuel you would burn to catch them if you are wanting some for the freezer. But, if you just want to feel the thrill, you gotta get out to where the pelagic fish roam.
Thanks, that is what I was afraid I was going to hear.
Not sure about here but I would check out of Destin Florida pan handle . Lot of sport fish not far from coast. A 2700 foot canyon 35 miles out. October is their rodeo big tournament for all salt water sport fish. I checked out the fishing museum there last year. I want to back and target Cobia.
Whitereb, I have fished the edge of that canyon on a charter before, 35 miles out. Back then the limit on amberjack was 6 per day. The party of 10 all caught a limit. We caught a bunch of triggerfish on the way back in. I think we all caught a Bonita or two that we used for bait to catch the trigger fish. It was a heck of a good time, my first deep sea fishing trip out of Destin.
