Been fishing for something (sometimes anything) for nearly 60 of my 68 years. My dad and grandfather were both part time fishermen and I learned from and taught them many things. I’m always looking for a productive pond or lake in the Chicago suburbs. There have been days when I was more successful 10 minutes from home than going to Kabetogama with friends for walleye. Around here, bluegill seem most prevalent so I lean toward ultralight most of the time, but after quite a bit of success fishing for channel cats, now I’m in the midst of hooking and landing a flathead. They’re rare in this immediate area but my recent lead to a flathead pond is beckoning. Gotta go rig my 9’ Ugly Stick for steering a bucketmouth to my feet. I’m 99% catch and release except a few bluegills for cut bait. Now to catch a few and keep them alive for those who prefer to kill their own dinner, aka, a flathead.
Hi Robert. How has the fishing been in IL since you posted this? I've been learning more about the state myself, so just curious... have a great week!
