I grew up on the west coast and lived there until the early 80s. I always used cream and sugar in my coffee. I got to New York City and ordered a coffee at the ferry terminal. She asked if I wanted it regular. I agreed. I was shocked when she added a LOT of sugar and cream. I thought it was a good thing I drink it like that. That was the the first of many cultural eye openers I experienced between the west and east coasts.

Lol! Same thing happened to me, Gmchief, except regular to me meant black. So when I agreed to regular at a NYC diner, I was surprised as you were. I learned to specify black going forward regardless of where I am.

Yes! Regular is black. You add your own fixings. Or so I thought!

I grew up in the West so I am amused when I'm called a flatlander, not being from New Hampshire. They talk about the White Mountains here. I just smile and admit that New Hampshire does have some pretty respectable hills. A wildfire fighter I know here told me he thought NH was rugged until he went out west to fight fires.

Cat 1. Hey good news on GMA this morning newest study on eating eggs. For many years they preached eating eggs were bad for your cholesterol levels. Newest study’s show that eating 12 fortified eggs per week doesn’t have any effects on your health, but don’t eat a lot of bacon or sausage with your eggs. Egglands best have a lot of the good stuff for you by feeding their hens with a lot of the good stuff that keeps you healthier. I only eat 2 eggs per week to keep my cholesterol below 180, I like eggs fried, scrambled and Denver omelettes. I’m going change my eating habits!! I have a defective heart valve so I’m concerned about keeping healthy at 80. See my cardiologist 2 times per year with a eco gram every year and treadmill and so far passing good. In my mind I’m still in my 30s but my body sometimes tells me i’m not. I still take care of my 2.6 acres of property. At least for now.

That’s correct, fish. Dietary cholesterol doesn’t affect your cholesterol levels. Those studies that showed that cholesterol was bad for us were conducted by the cereal industry. Therefore promoting there products as a healthier alternative. I eat a lot of hard boiled eggs for the protein factor and hasn’t increased my cholesterol levels. But each of us is different so be sure to track your levels… so enjoy your eggs. After all it is Easter 🐣… 🐟on

I pretty much fall into Cat 1 but most times have a snack between lunch and dinner. When fishing meals come last. I eat when convenient.

Growing up west coast, we breakfast, lunch, supper during the week. Breakfast, dinner, and supper on Sunday. A special meal weekday evenings, like when company was over, was dinner. I wonder if the distinction is how special the meal is that makes it dinner or supper. Maybe dinner means the main meal for the day.

Interesting story from a friend who reads these post.

Breakfast, lunch and supper around here. When I was a kid, on the ranch it was 6,12&6. No snacking in between outside of drinks and if you missed 6:00, 12:00 and 6:00 you were out of luck till the next meal time. Gramma always made enough for each meal to hold you over pretty good if you missed one but those were the rules and there was no room for debate period. Always had desert for lunch and supper too. It didn't hurt us too much if we missed a meal every now and again. Grampa would say "well we missed lunch already just as well keep on working". Then Gramma just fed us lunch for supper. No wasting any food that was for sure and the pigs and chickens ate good too. She designed every meal to have scraps for them.

I sure miss those days. Now it's just grab a piece of toast or something easy for breakfast whenever we get around to it, seldom stop for lunch and always eat way too much for supper at 9:00 at night and suffer all night trying to sleep while you feel the fat building.

In Gramma's time there was still 3 or 4 hours of work that needed done after supper. Depending on the time year we were up and going when the sun came up and in bed when it got dark. Didn't have electricity so it was coal oil lamps when it was dark and coal oil wasn't cheap. We didn't waste it. It was like $1.50 for a 55 gallon drum of it and it had to last till harvest time next year. One barrel a year. Lol.

Knowing what I know now I'm not so sure what was good about the " good ole days" except we didn't know any different back then. It was normal. Now we just flip on a light switch, turn on a movie and microwave some pop corn and call it a day. Text all of our family and friends from the comfort of our recliners. Flush toilets and hot running water for dishes and a shower. Back in the "good ole days" you crapped in a hole inside a little shed and you made sure to do it before you went to bed. Especially in the winter when it was 30 below zero outside because that little hole was a LONG ways from the house. We took a bath once a week in a wash tub and only if we were forced to. In the summer we figured irrigating the hay fields and getting wet all day was a bath. Gramma didn't see it that way.😆

Seems to me that residents in the South refer to cat 2 and those in the North refer more to cat 1. That's based on traveling and my relatives in different parts of the country.

ALOT of the people I grew up with in Texas were farmers.
IDK if it's a Texas thing or more from the farmers, but they always referred to Cat 3.
