Hey Steve, you need to PM Randy Hartford a longtime stager, that is where he lives. Good guy to get info from for sure.

When are you going to be in the area! Right now he fishing has been terrible to say the least. There is a guide on Clinton Lake that post pictures almost every day “Kansas angeling experience “. The weather has been cold and windy and I am not getting out much
Contact me closer to time and maybe I can help better.
What brings you to Lawrence?

Honestly, right now with the temps in the 20’s the best bet is to find a place that stocks trout! We will have some days in the upcoming weeks that are in the 60’s and 70’s but other than catfish, it is going to be very slow!

Clinton Lake has a trout pond that gets stocked. I think all or most state lakes have trout ponds. During the trout season you have to have valid Kansas license and trout stamp.

Kansas Angling Experience is pretty much booked solid by now. Clinton is a very good lake. Check any rocky areas, the walleye should be beginning their "spawning" stage. Crappie are probably pretty shallow and should be able to be caught from shore. Small minnows and small jigs should work for both. There is always a chance for white bass as well.

Back in the dark ages when I was attending KU I had connections that got me onto a few farm ponds that produced decent bass and crappie. Seems like the crappie would be stirring soon in that neck of the woods. Farm pond access is probably a long shot for you, but thought I would mention it.

Go to Clinton Lake on the west side of Lawrence and fish by the marina for crappie. They are spawning right now and you should do pretty good there
