Striper season opened today in Jersey, decided to wet the line for the first time this year. Fished the sod banks in Tuckahoe River, just some very small perch but it was great to get out. Had a visit from the game wardens, very cordial conversation and no requests for saltwater registration or ID. Looking forward to launching the boat in another month and topping my 90 trips from last year. Good luck to everyone this year with tight lines and safe returns!
There are not enough wardens. There are too many poachers. If you aren't doing anything illegal, why should you be concerned? I cooperate, show them my usually empty bucket and thank them for their service.
Depends where. Some areas are closed from dusk 'til dawn. I don't agree with the law sometimes, but there is usually a reason. I know of a few places that were closed because of littering from late night beer parties, etc. They were not closed because of fishermen, but had to be closed to everyone because of a few abusers. I make it a habit to clean up as much trash as I can carry on my way out of a fishing area so it doesn't happen again. We have lost too many accesses in the last 20 years. Thank you for your posts Bands. I am recovering from a broken leg and can't get out yet. One of these days I will get to see you in person somewhere.
I know a fisherman who got an $80 ticket for fishing π£ at night. Is fishing at night poaching?
Yes if it is illegal in the state or body of water. Taking any game or fish in violation of the law is poaching. Follow the law, or stay home and watch Bill Dance. It is really simple.
Hello whereβs the sod banks how do you get down in there the roads directions thanks
In Cape May County, the sod banks are between the Garden State Parkway and the ocean. You can get there from the exits to Ocean City, Sea Isle City, Avalon, Stone Harbor, etc.

There are a lot of little sod banks along the intercoastal from Raritan Bay to Cape May wherever there is undeveloped land meeting the water. There is a good patch along the South Shore of the Raritan Bay from Union Beach to Keyport if you feel like walking a quarter mile or more. There is a another much larger area along Island Beach State Park and out along the north side of the Barnegate Inlet. Most are only accessible by boat.
