Hello stagers,
I'm thinking of having a fishing journal to learn from my experiences while fishing .Weather conditions, Temperatures outside, times fished and of course fish caught.
Have any of you done something similar and could give me some advice.
I have a relatively funny name that I wish to call my fishing journal that may be Inappropriate to post here. It's not really all that bad just ornery, and since I unsubcribed too the Attic I wish to keep it out of there.
If you're curious as to its title shoot me a PM and I'll be happy to share it with you ☺️
I don't think the title will offend anyone, just make you laugh

I once thought it was a good idea but I’ve decided that for me it’s not worth the effort or the time and trouble doing it, I’d rather just go out and fish

I keep a log with location, water temperature, fish caught, misses, and bait used. It’s interesting to review and see patterns, especially year over year when fishing has been very good or not so much, also helpful when sending in reports to the state for bonus tags.

I just started one last year when I bought a bass boat to help keep track of engine hours. But I also record weather data, fish caught and baits used. Hopefully it will help me on future trips; but it doesn't matter cause I follow the old adage " Even a bad day fishing is better than a good day [you fill in the blank]."

Can’t say I’ve ever done something like that . I guess if I had a journal , it would be in my head , and would only pertain to remembering the times I’ve caught really big bass, exceptional catches, or really wild or scary events while I was on the water. And I can remember most of those right now like it was yesterday…my 2cents

Hey Commander - I use a fishing journal published by journalsunlimited.com They also make them for hunting and travel. The ones I have for hunting and fishing are 3" x 5-1/2" x 1/2' thick and fit in your pocket. They're spiral bound with thick cardboard covers. They have subject lines for what you are hunting/fishing for, date, weather, companions, location, results, etc.

On my computer, I set up spreadsheets to track the gas mileage in our cars, mileage on my boat trailer, and runtime on my outboard. Force of habit, I guess; I had a college professor that encouraged us to keep detailed records in our careers. From my first day on the job, i did that and it paid off numerous times. Like one of the previous commenters experienced, my log book kept our company out of a lawsuit one time.

I have a journal that I use for fly fishing. Temp of water, cloud coveer, flies used, bites and fish caught and a few other things. I do not use one for bass fishing yet, but I am going to start. And I like the prepared journal rather than print my own. It makes me reflect on the trip. Always wanting to improve.

Myself n friends keep logs for saltwater fishing.if you’re going to live somewhere for multiple years it helps you learn fish movement in The Ocean.Simple things like date, water depth, Moon phase, weather, water temp if possible, and bait or lure used. I was amazed after keeping one for three years how much it could help find the fish movement That being said I have never kept one for freshwater fishing
