Best feeling in the world is seeing the look on the fishes face when he realizes he was caught on a $30 Walmart combo..
Congrats C-Luck!!

Decided to try out my new rod in the mud hole in my RV Park. Used 6'6" medium OT(Ozark Trail) rod w/OT 3000 spinning reel spooled w/12lb Big Game line. Used #4 treble w/Magic Bait "King Kat" chicken blood fished weightless 18" under a bobber. Only my 2nd cast.

Impressive performance for a $30 combo rig, especially the drag. Very smooth and steady. Really good rig for the $.

Glad you like the Ozark trail rod and reel. I bought one of their rod and reel combos and it didn't last 1 season catching s.allmouth bass out of the river. About a month in the rod broke on the hook set, took it back, they gave .e a new one. Three weeks later, same thing. The reel started getting loose gear feeling about half way through the season and took it apart, it had plenty of grease in it, but there was a bunch of metal shavings in the grease. Cleaned everything up and put it back together. Maybe a month later I could not even reel in the cast I had just made. Threw them both in the trash. By the way, they were spinning rod and reel.

Just goes to prove you don't need $300 with a rod and reel to catch a decent fish. Those of us who live on a fairly tight budget understand this well.

With a catch like that C-Luck, I think you have a Walmart Special in your possession. Nice going.

The guys in the park said that they had stocked an even bigger one several years ago so who knows. This one was 33" long and I estimate about 15 - 18 lbs. Of course I'm no expert since I was a bass tournament fisherman and have less than 4 or 5 cats caught in my life (75 yrs). This was the first cat I actually targeted.

Quick ? Was this a channel or a blue?

Looks like a Blue cat. Channel cats have a more pointed nose and not that color. Look Here.

Hope that helps.

Walmart rod and Magic Bait, what a hellful combination. I really didn’t think that magic bait stuff worked. It sure didn’t do me any good when I tried to use it.
Congratulations Congratulations Congratulations!!!!!!
