Good to know, Ranger632! I'll have to research those ponds as well. :-)
Thanks for that information!

I use both light and ultralight rods. If I am tossing very small bait (1/32 oz. soft plastics), I use the ultralight. But most ultralight rods are not meant to be used with a lure that weighs more than 1/8 oz. To cast 1/4 oz. lures, I use light rods.

When I fish with bait at Almanor or troll at Lake Chabot in the Bay Area I use a Cabelas rod rated for 1-4lb test and is 11’3”. Great fun. All of the rods I use in Mexico are 1 piece parabolic Harnells that are a minimum of 8’. I have caught many 200 to 400 lb fish with rods rated for 25lb test.

What test did you use to bring in those 200 -400 lb fish

50 lb mono for live bait or 100 to 150 lb hollow spectra with a 50 to 80 lb top shot of mono maybe 50 to 150 yards long for trolling. A 15 ‘ leader of 200 lb to 350lb mono for trolling or 60 to 80 lb test leader for live bait.

Either one , some manufacturers rate differently . I have a few Ugly Stiks and the shorter UL ones are actually stiffer than the 6' lite model . You mentioned you stream fish , sometimes shorter is easier to carry when walking through tangles . I like a 7' rod easier to follow your drifting line and direct it . A few people will say a 5' rod is better as to not cast into brush / trees , not for me ! I can cast into a tree with a short rod just as easy as a longer one .

I'm using the Shimano Aldebaran BFS paired with a Phenix 6'8" BFS CLASSIC rod....Absolutely love it!... Cheers And good luck
